THE BRIT SCHOOL CELEBRATES EXCELLENT VOCATIONAL AND A-LEVEL RESULTS AS STUDENTS GET PLACES AT TOP UNIVERSITIES AND COLLEGES.

Students at The BRIT School celebrate incredible vocational and academic achievement at Post 16 despite the disruption of Covid-19 by gaining the highest ever percentage of Distinctions of the UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma and an uplift in A Level results from 2019- well above the national average.
Students commit to a rigorous curriculum specialising in a performing or creative arts UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma, which is equivalent to 3 A Levels and some students also undertake additional A Levels or BTEC certificates.
264 students, 55.70% of the cohort, gained a Distinction at UAL which is the highest possible grade and is the equivalent of three As at A Level.
The BRIT School also had exceptionally strong A Level results including 86% (71% in 2019) A*-C grades and 52% (40% in 2019) A*-B grades.
200 students have been accepted by their chosen universities, 15 of whom are going to Russell Group universities studying creative and performing arts degrees as well as taking up diverse subjects such as Anthropology, English, History, Mathematics, Computer Science, Philosophy and Social Work.
41% of students in receipt of Free School Meals have accepted a place at university through UCAS which is substantially higher than the national average.
We also have students accepted onto courses at RADA, Bristol Old Vic, Central, Rambert, Bird College, Urdang, ArtsEd, Mountview, Performers and many others.
The following students demonstrate the success of both UAL and A Levels: Nada El-Hammould who achieved a Distinction in Film Media & Production and an A* in English Literature A Level is going to SOAS to study Middle Eastern Studies and Law; Emilia Gould who achieved a Distinction in Dance and an A* in English Literature A Level is going on to Brighton Academy to study Musical Theatre; Torin Umrigar who achieved a Distinction in Music and an A* in English Literature A Level is going to take up a place at Leeds University to study Journalism and Anne Marie Archie who gained a Distinction in Music and an A* in Maths A Level is going to Sheffield University to study Music.
Principal Stuart Worden said, “This has been an extraordinary day for the students studying during this unsettling time in a world where the arts need to be celebrated more than ever before. The UAL results are even stronger than last year’s and students have achieved the highest grades in their A-levels too. The balance of vocational and academic subjects is what we have always been striving for and we celebrate this today.
Our focus has always been on the progression of our students to the next stages of their careers and we will be on hand to guide them towards this exciting chapter whether it be going on to University, leading vocational schools or the world of work. These results show the confidence we have had in our students and it shows their determined, ambitious responsible approach to learning – truly upholding BRIT values.”
In 2019, 97% OF STUDENTS HAVE EITHER GONE ON TO FULL TIME EMPLOYMENT AND/OR HIGHER EDUCATION
The BRIT School in Croydon, founded in 1991 is first and leading free performing and creative arts School in the country. Since it was set up the School has a proven track record of producing students who have excelled across all areas of the creative arts and related media and now work in sectors including fashion, digital, theatre, TV and Film production, app development, graphic design, illustration, teaching, music A&R, animation and journalism (see notes).
Covid-19
During lockdown, The BRIT School has continued to deliver a full online timetable of practical and academic classes plus Q&A BRIT Talks with alumni and industry professionals from across the creative industries. In addition, students’ creative work has been showcased on a platform called BRIT Now www.brit.croydon.sch.uk/britnow giving students a voice to respond to live situations including Covid-19, the NHS, Pride and Black Lives Matter. People’s Day - a community celebration, the annual Film & Media Production Showcase, Theatre Festival Strawberry Picking, an exclusive BRIT Festival with The Other Songs and Graduation Ceremonies were celebrated online using fully the digital arts to keep the spirit of the School alive.

The BRIT School is the UK’s first and leading free performing & creative arts school for 1,400 young people aged 14 to 19. The School – an exempt charity based in Croydon – invests in the future of the UK’s cultural wealth by nurturing young artistic talent from all backgrounds and teaching the skills needed by the rapidly growing creative industries.

Next year is the 30th anniversary year and over 9,000 students have been educated at The BRIT School including Adele, Amy Winehouse, Jessie J, Katie Melua, Leona Lewis, Rex Orange County, Jade Bird, Freya Ridings and Kate Nash. In total, students from the School have been responsible for selling over 160m albums, billions of streams, won 12 BRIT Awards, 19 Grammys, 2 BAFTAS, 2 Oscars, a Laurence Olivier Award, a UK Theatre Award and a London Evening Standard Award. Acclaimed band black midi and artists Georgia, King Krule, Kate Tempest and Loyle Carner have all been nominated for the prestigious Mercury Music Prize.
In addition, students including Cush Jumbo (The Good Wife), Cleve September (2018 Olivier Award Nominee for Hamilton), Tarinn Callender (Hamilton), and Tom Holland (Spiderman) are among the many who have achieved enormous acclaim on stage and in film.
Dancers from the School are part of the troupe of many of the world’s leading modern dance companies including Akram Khan, Pina Bausch Wuppertal, Richard Alston and Matthew Bourne and have recently performed with the Spice Girls at Wembley and Stormzy at Glastonbury.
We have graduates working at many prestigious organisations including: Apple, BBC, ITV, Warner Music, Sony, Britannia Row, White Light, PRG Video XL, Royal Albert Hall, Facebook, Ralph Lauren, National Theatre and Sky as well as running their own businesses across the globe.
